Archives For October 2011

Check out this great video showcasing Giuseppe Zanotti from Millan Fashion Week 2012.  His shoes are amazing and the collection is so large but still has such a a great cohesiveness; I love it.

With an inspiration from “a girl from the 70′s” with an African twist of details and colors, Zanotti creates his collection using a lot of texture and volume.

His inspiration really comes out within this collection. I think there is a lot of strength in the choice of colors and shape in what he’s doing. “The shoes in the 70′s were a little more aggressive….. [these] shoes are a little more ergonomic…. sweet.”

As a hair stylist I love the idea of building inspiration from something like this. It is so much fun when we are able to truly find inspiration in our Fashion. Personally I am so drawn to the use of the texture… with the combination of the colors.

Another piece of this video that was so great was the passion he had for his work. It really shows when someone cares and puts their heart and soul (no pun intended) into what they do. I think it shines through… some how your work is just better. To me that is just such an amazing lesson!

Randomly trying to find something interesting to blog about- I happen to find out that today is the birthday of 1990′s movie girl Winona Ryder.

Now I know that Winona isn’t what we would call “current,” but growing up she had many movies that were part of my life: Beetlejuice, Welcome Home Roxy Carmichael, Mermaids, Reality Bites, Little Women, Edward Scissorhands…

As I was looking through endless pics of her on the internet I started to realize how much she influenced (or was influenced) by fashion through the years. Kudos for her for changing it up and keeping it new and fresh.

So I guess this was a nice throw back to the 90′s for me…and welp, since the 90s are in, maybe Winona will continue to inspire us in the fashion world.

If you have a minute check out all the looks she has pulled off.

Happy Birthday Winona!

O.K. So if you don’t have your costume by now you might be lost.

What you’ll need:

  • Once again, a pink Nicki wig

  • Silver beaded cuff bracelets

Want to see what a perfect redhead looks like? Then just Google Jenny Lewis.

You may or may not know her from “Troop Beverly Hills,” “The Wizard,” the lead singer of the best band ever- Rilo Kiley…she has dated Jake Gyllenhaal, set some awesome hipster trends, rocked ruffle socks with Mary Janes, brought back sultry 70′s styles…I kinda idolize her so I apologise for my high praises of her if you do not agree with me.

I have to say she is one of my main inspirations…check her music out if you have never heard of her by the way.

Anyhow- her wavy, natural looking red locks always makes my heart flutter a little bit. Not only does this girl portray a shy and demure lady at times, but can also pull of a hot and fierce woman that you don’t wanna f*%k with.

And who doesn’t want the versatility of being the girl next door to the vamp? SO CHECK IT…JENNY LEWIS…

HALLOWEEN COSTUME OF THE DAY!!

greg —  October 28, 2011 — 1 Comment

So I was having a discussion with a guest of mine while working behind the chair today and I figured I just had to share this for the costume of the day.

Personally I think this is brilliant! In fact to share a little bit about my self… it’s totally where I am going with my Halloween this year.

1980′s wrestling costumes.

Now for all of those of you reading this who are females don’t worry, there is a whole club of female wrestlers! They are dubbed G. L. O. W. – The Gorgeous Ladies Of Wrestling.

Do you remember this?? If you do your amazing!! Either way this is definitely a must for Halloween. Also, it’s extremely easy and you get to wear super huge 80′s hair!

Also Please Watch This!:

For all the guys out there, it is pretty much endless. But if your lost here are some great buys from amazon:

Sargent Slaughter

And of course your classics…. Hulk Hogan, Macho Man Randy Savage, The Ultimate Warrior…. the list goes on and on… But one thing is for sure with male wrestlers THERE WERE A LOT OF MULLETS!!

Not to toot my own horn…but what is the point in saying that when I am actually up on a trend, kudos to me. (I’m not as cocky as I seem- give a girl a break.) So I was just browsing hair styles for fancy like occasions and stumbled upon this little pic:

What I am trying to get it as that I recently got married, hitched, tied the knot, ball and chain, yadda yadda yadda- and cliche as it was, it was the best day of my life. Anyways- the hair styles for my ladies had all kinds of braid like elements. One girl had the middle bottom pic look- a little bit Swedish Heide meets NYC, One of my girls had the top middle look, all of my flowers girls had the middle row left pic hairstyle- so cute by the way. I love the whimsy and care free look that messy braids create. It is so “I really don’t give a crap about my hair because I have better things to do- but it somehow looks totally awesome.” If you don’t agree- next time you are off to a high society function- or a bingo game with some hot 80 year olds- throw that hair into a messy care free braid and just wait- next time you are out, I guarantee someone will be sporting the same ‘do they saw on you!

Have you seen Beyoncé’s New Video “Party”

You need to! Not only is she getting her hair highlighted in the video, the Fashion in this video is HOT HOT HOT!!!

It uses a killer filter on the video so it has a really cool summer vintage vibe, which flows really well with the fashion showcased. The song has a good beat, slow tempo; just a really chill song.

Enough talking about it. Check it Out!

Check out this awesome look book of Raquel Zimmerman in Vogue Paris November 2011.

It’s modern, sexy and a little dark. What more could you ask for!

Photographed by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin with styling by editor in chief Emmanuelle Alt, including the designs of Atelier Versace, Elie Saab and Chanel Haute Couture.

Looking for something a little more…….  “Provocative?”

This one is for you! Chances are you’re already sweet.. right? So, you might as well show it off!

But, It’s not enough to just be a BAG OF SKITTLES. This is for hair stylists remember!!

So, you have to make the hair “TASTE THE RAINBOW”

Try these on for size!:

Looking for that perfect length? Not to short and over the length? Julianne Hough has got you covered. Not sure if you saw her hair yet, but I think it is a great length and style for the fall.

A Salon (SPY) witness tells that Hough and a friend came into Los Angeles’ Nine Zero One salon last Thursday.

“She was in a super good mood because it was her first day being done with all her [Footloose] press.” “She wanted to cut her hair off to get it healthy from all the styling since she doesn’t work until the new year.”

Tons of texture and movement give this style everything it needs and like the quote said… best part… it’s easy! In fact its very reminisent of Jennifer Anistons new look from August.
Looking to take it up a notch? Try adding strength in the color with lots of dimension. This will help to bring out the texture more and keep the maintenance way down! For stylists and clients…. everyone loves low maintenance.
